Vonage has settled its patent litigation suit with Sprint offering the
company US$80 million in a combined payment that terminates the lawsuit
and assures Vonage can continue using 100 of Sprint's VOIP related
patents.

It was another bad news week for
U.S. VoIP service provider Vonage, but there was a little good news
mixed with the bad. The company lost the first round of its patent
infringement lawsuit with Sprint Nextel, but had a minor win on appeal
in its patent suit with Verizon.

million dollars worth of call minutes form some of America's largest IP
telephony providers has been fined US$150,000 and will spend two years
in prison for his effort.

ShoreTel has filed counterclaims against Mitel in response to the
latter's patent infringement lawsuit against ShoreTel. The tit for tat
lawsuit rally began a little over a month ago when Mitel decided
ShareTel was violating some of its patent portfolio.
