IDC has pegged Voice over IP as having the highest growth
potential of any new technology currently hitting the market. As small business
and home users begin to become aware of the technology, they are showing huge
interest in the both on premise implementation and hosted IP Centrex-style VoIP,
says the researcher.

One significant advantage Skype and will hold for some time if
it can manage things properly is the first to market advantage. Skype may not have
been first to market, but its early popularity has enabled the company to attract
first mover advantage in many aspects, not least of all the development of peripheral
