EMC has spun up its Smarts Common Information Model to serve a new master – IP Telephony.
Though more at home managing complex storage networks, EMC has spread its product wings a little with the introduction of Smarts Voice over IP (VoIP) Manager.
The VoIP Manager applies EMCs network performance and analysis skills to the delay and latency issues which can sometimes affect voice call quality.
The new software monitors VoIP network systems and applications for availability and immediately identifies the root cause of any problems, ensuring that critical voice services remain available.
This carrier/enterprise level solution auto seeks elements such as voice switches, IP PBXs, media gateways and VoIP servers, and so on then builds a topology of relationships and dependencies of the network infrastructure.
The Smarts system is used to manage data flows about the network to aid in the implementation of EMC’s information lifecycle management objectives so that different data is given different priority.
As VoIP requires a high level QoS (Quality of Service) Smarts is able to investigate the network to see where lag and jitter is being caused.
Chris Gahagan, Senior Vice President, Resource Management, EMC Software Group says the software allows users to “quickly identify root-cause problems, assess impacts and prioritise fixes.”
EMC SmartsVoIP Manager is built upon the Smarts common data model that maps devices, relationships, behaviours and interactions across all layers of an IP network.
A key feature in EMCs offering is that the system’s cross-domain correlation capability enables it to identify root-cause problems in one domain that may be originating in another domain.
