Telstra is increasing its level of commitment to Enterprise IP Telephony by joining Avaya's BusinessPartner program at the Gold certification level.

The Telstra Business Systems (TBS) subsidiary plans to penetrate the IP Telephony and call centre market by increasing its level of training and accreditation on Avaya's VoIP platforms.

Telstra recently increased its investment in Avaya IP Telephony when it purchased the Avaya customer base and staff of disgruntled Avaya reseller Touchbase migrating a five year partnership between Touchbase and Avaya across to the TBS brand.

"Telstra has a unique position in the market," said Telstra Business Systems Managing Director, Malcolm Flanagan. "It has the ability to service customer's needs for all of their communication requirements across a broad range of platforms today and tomorrow."

Flanagan said the increased level of involvement with the Avaya partner program demonstrates Telstra's commitment to IP Telephony adoption in Australia, adding that Telstra has already established "an impressive team to market and sell the Avaya technology".

The relationship combines Telstra's strength as the leading ICT company in Australia, he said.

The Gold accreditation status recognises Telstra's team has technical and commercial expertise at levels consistent with Avaya's high standards, said a press statement which will provide sales, marketing, distribution and support for the Avaya enterprise IP telephony range and call centre solutions to businesses in Australia.

At the same time, Avaya will provide Telstra's team with training and certification for the delivery of converged voice and data networking and applications as well as supporting services to enterprises.

"IP telephony is fast becoming the preferred option over traditional voice systems with Australian companies recognising the business benefits of converged solutions," Flanagan said.

"The addition of Avaya to our portfolio means a greater choice of technology for the customer as well as enhanced capability within Telstra to guide them on their IP transformation journey," he said.

Carlton Taya, Managing Director, Avaya South Pacific said that with Telstra marketing, selling, servicing and supporting its technology, Avaya will benefit form an expanded local presence.
