The wireless broadband subsidiary of Commander Communications is teaming with its parent to deliver a wireless VoIP service. No date has been set for the launch.

Although the companies have completed trials of an iBurst VoIP service some work remains to be done to deliver a productised service the company has said.

Personal Broadband Australia and Commander Communications will offer the service first to existing Commander customers and it is envisaged that the service will be used in a fixed wireless mode with an IP-based PABX system, according to reports.

"To actually put the whole service through requires components from Commander and components from PBA," PBA managing director Jonathan Withers told The Australian.

"Technically, it works but you actually have to create a full product package for it because full service requires components that are not directly provided by PBA," he said.

Ultimately the two intend to offer the service to a wider audience including existing PBA iBurst customers and ultimately through channel partners, said the report.
