This combined solution is designed to reduce the barriers to
VoIP adoption by providing a more secure solution for IP Telephony over public
IP networks. Security is embedded at the application layer making it a more
robust, less expensive and simpler to manage solution than others on the market
according to the companies.
The solution is based on BorderWare's SIPassure VoIP
security and Mitel's 3600 Hosted
Key System. The Mitel 3600 Security Gateway securely enables and protects SIP-based
and Mitel's MiNET signalling and transport.
The solution is tightly integrated with the Mitel 3600
Hosted Key System and provides application layer security to protect against
SPIT (Spam over Internet Telephony), Denial of Service, Unauthorised
Registration and other types of VoIP attacks which would easily penetrate
packet-layer security devices.
The Mitel 3600 is a service provider solution targeting SMBs
up to 50 employees with a and is designed for use over the same Internet connection
the client is using for data.
BorderWare's SIPassure secures VoIP, video and IM with a
meld of Session Border Control (SBC), an Application Layer Gateway (ALG) and a
SIP/VoIP Firewall. The solution allows VoIP traffic to securely traverse the
network while keeping service provider core infrastructure free from external
malicious threats.
"This solution significantly lowers the cost of entry for
service providers wishing to offer business-quality hosted voice services for
SMBs," said Doug Michaelides, vice president, Global Marketing, Mitel. "The new
Mitel 3600 Security Gateway delivers VoIP security at a fraction of the cost of
more complex, generic session border controllers."
"We see this as an integration of expertise," said Tim
Leisman, CEO of BorderWare. "Mitel's expertise in IP telephony is well known
and well regarded, and they selected BorderWare based on our 12 years of
experience and expertise in IP security. Together, we're delivering a hosted
VoIP solution that is more secure, simpler to operate and radically more
cost-effective for VoIP service providers."
