Kayote Networks has announced it will embed KoolSpan's smart card authentication services in its VoIP management solutions to offer large enterprise and carrier providers a more secure IP Telephony solution.

KoolSpan's embedded Secure Encrypted and Trusted (SET) Link technology will be used by Kayote to bridge its carrier-class network, users, and devices with encrypted network layer access.

KoolSpan's SET Link technology automatically creates secure, encrypted, trusted network links between any two points on an IP network and provides a solution for "traditional network headaches" such as a general lack of interoperability created by firewalls, the use of VPN clients and the need to connect to non-public (NAT) IP addresses.

The hardware-based smart card system ensures that only authorised members of the network can connect protecting both the customer and service provider from abuses and attacks.

"I am proud to offer our clients, together with KoolSpan, a unique and reliable authentication measure that will protect the advanced IP communications services we deliver, and in particular, to enterprises and businesses worldwide," said Dr. Baruch Sterman, CEO of Kayote Networks.

"We have long championed the vision that in order to devise the best communications technology solutions, it is imperative to first-and foremost protect one's key assets, and KoolSpan's solution does just that."

KoolSpan technology combines smart card-to-smart card architecture with per packet 256-bit AES Ethernet encryption without impacting bandwidth utilisation or performance.

Operating at Layer 2, the lock and key infrastructure provides a secure and consistent way for trusted users inside or outside the firewall to access secured networks.

KoolSpan President and CEO Tony Fascenda explained the KoolSpan technology operates transparently to protect VoIP communications without any modification to the application, protocol or customer network.

"It is increasingly important to eliminate or side-step traditional complexities that prevent end users from taking advantage of newer and more secure communications tools," he said.
