The latest DECT cordless on the market comes from consumer
SMB networking company, D-Link with the launch of the DPH-C160S VoIP phone.
Priced at A$269 the DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless
Telecommunications) dual-mode unit supports multiple handsets off the one base
station and allows 3-way conference calling between VoIP and the regular
telephone line.
The phone base plugs directly into a broadband gateway
eliminating the need for your PC to be turned on and the phone supports SIP meaning
it will support most service providers (not including Skype).
"The DPH-C160S uses Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) - a
standard signalling protocol for Internet telephony - meaning it is ready to be
used with an Internet (VoIP) phone service plan. It's truly plug and play.
Assuming you already have a broadband connection, all you need to do is choose
a call plan from a VoIP Phone Service Provider and sign up for service. The
result is immediate cost savings," said Maurice Famularo, D-Link Marketing
Director, Australia and New Zealand.
"This phone provides home and business users with immediate
access to low cost international and interstate VoIP calling and traditional
telephone service in a single device," said Famularo. "Features like echo
cancellation, packet delay compensation, and lost packet recovery, mean that
the voice quality delivered by the DPH-C160S is similar to that of traditional
phone calls.
Other features of the DPH-C160S include:
-
A large LCD screen that displays call information such as
call history, address book entries, and caller ID numbers
-
Convenient calling features including speed-dial, redial,
call forwarding, mute, and hold
-
Auto detection and switching of incoming VoIP and regular
calls
-
Call waiting between the VoIP and regular telephone line
-
Handset locator
-
Speaker phone
-
Supports multiple handsets on one base unit
-
Range from 50 metres indoors to 300 metres outdoors
