A leading Home Automation control and management company, AMX, has announced it has used VoIP in its latest touch screen control panels to allow intercom functionality.

The Modero control panels meet the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T) G.711 sound standard, enabling them to deliver a telephone-quality user experience, says the company.

"AMX continues to add advanced new features to our touch panels as a direct response to customer demand," said Robert Noble, AMX's vice president of product management and marketing. "With our new Moderos, a separate intercom system is no longer needed. The same touch panels that control and automate homes can now also be used to improve communication between families."

Without mentioning any prospects of making external IP Telephony part of the system, AMX says the newest panels offer one-way broadcast and two-way communications between panels. The panels are suitable for both residential and commercial implementation.

You can also use one panel to monitor another with a listen only feature si8milar to baby monitor functionality or for privacy, users can totally disable all intercom capabilities for a temporary period.
