Skype and Thompson are delivering a new Skype DECT handset that supports regualr PSTN calls as hardware devices continue to make VoIP, and VoIM transparent to the user.

The GE DECT 6.0 will retail for US$149 and will support Skype conferencing and regular PSTN conferencing. Skype & land-line conferencing capability supports up to four users simultaneously from the handset.

The speakerphone has a a color LCD screen and a 100 name capacity address book, including separate call “logs” for traditional and Internet contacts.

The phone suports different tones to allow for audible Caller ID and has hearing aid compatibility for the hearing impaired.

Sporting a health 120 hour standby time and 10 hour talk time.

Bundled with two handsets, the new phone has call waiting, supports voice encryption, intercom function and has mute/hold as well as ringer on/off option.

“Now consumers can seamlessly integrate Skype Internet calling convenience into their daily lifestyle, switching effortlessly between traditional land-line and Internet calls,” said Tom Bratton, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Thomson Consumer Network Solutions. “And since the system is expandable to up to six handsets, you can now easily have cordless interference-free DECT 6.0 wireless handsets for Skype in every room of the house!”

Premium Skype features, including SkypeOutTM for inexpensive international calls to traditional landlines and mobile phones, SkypeInTM to receive calls from landline or mobile phones on Skype, and Skype Voicemail will all be easily accessible through the handset.
