Skype has released a new Beta version of its Mac OSX client which includes the ability to do 10-way conference calling and to send SMS messages.
In an interesting aside, Skype
has also announced that 10-way conferencing which initially cause a
storm of protest and of anti-trust accusations because it was limited
to Intel Core Duo processors is now available on all platforms whether
dual core or not.
Anyway, about the 2.5 for Mac Beta. The
interface has been prettied up with some animation effects, some
improvements to the history list and the ability to change the audio
device setting so that incoming calls aren't announced through the
headset, are all noted as well.
But the big news is the SMS
capability and the 10-way video conferencing. Admittedly, this latest
release comes pretty hot on the heels of version 2.0 being finalised,
but it seems there's not much happening here except some bug fixes and
tweaking.
Users
on the Skype for Mac blog are still bitching about how Skype sets the
resolution for Video conferencing on G4 (PowerPc) Macs, though they
have been beefed up for the G5 Macs making them equivalent to the Intel
Macs.

In other Beta news Skype has a notice up saying it has pulled the update to it Windows 3.0 Beta which it posted earlier as the new version which contained "important fixes" to last week’s Beta had to be pulled down due to reports of some "potentially pretty disastrous bugs".
