The 3 mobile X-Series announcement of all-you-can-eat Skype calling form Mobiles will be powered by iSkoot software. The company has announced its mobile Skype client is the one to be pre-loaded onto the Nokia and Sony Ericsson handsets used by 3 to launch the service.

It's a big win for iSkoot, not just in terms of additional business, but in terms of credibility in this fast emerging market. To deliver the service iSkoot's servers will be integrated into 3's network to allow for seamless calling and billing for end users.

However, while iSkoot can achieve it, we understand that the initial 3 roll-out will not include SkypeOut functionality. Users will have to wait until next year to make calls to traditional landlines and the service will be restricted to Skype-to-Skype calls initially.

"Skype on mobile will quickly become a must-have feature. By combining Skype with iSkoot's mobile solution, users will never be out of touch with their online Skype contacts." said Jacob Guedalia, CEO of iSkoot.

"3 is first out the gate, reaffirming the company's cutting-edge, pioneer reputation. By utilizing existing network resources iSkoot enables maximal availability with minimal software investment. Now mobile operators can satisfy user demand for Skype and expand average revenue per user - it's a clear win-win situation. With iSkoot-enabled Skype calls, 3 has a clear differentiator to offer mobile users."

iSkoot became the first mobile client partner to be certified by Skype back in August.

The system enables any Java-enabled phone to become a Skype phone and will work without involvement from the carrier. The company has a list of eight Patents pending that cover its client server protocol and interfaces, the Mobile-to-Skype gateway and integrated presence system.

The system works by calling the iSkoot gateway server via a regular mobile phone call which is then transferred onto the Skype network.

iSkoot said at the time the system would be attractive to carriers as it still uses regular calling minutes and had signed up Cingular to the system even before Skype came on board with certification.

The same system is (or will) work with Yahoo! and GoogleTalk.
