In the lead up to Christmas a lot of PC makers are bemoaning the delay of Microsoft Windows Vista, no need for the VoIP service providers to feel like they'll miss out in the pre-Christmas sales rush though.

Consumer VoIP is still growing well in the Australian market and as Interest Rates continue to put pressure, the lower cost of calls is a good sales point. Another is the growing number of handset available to swap out all those aging headsets early adopters have been using.

And with the increased consumer mind share VoIP has this Christmas, it just might be a time for device makers to cash in on some increase volume.

MyNetPhone, is one VoIP provider that's though this through and seems to be gearing up for a Christmas push, it releasing a new low-cost USB phone to retailers in time for the present buying season.

Pointing out that Christmas is just the time when your phone bill soars as you get in contact with friends and family overseas, MyNetFone's Managing Director, Andy Fung says: "As households struggle to stretch the family budget as far as possible, the uptake of VoIP in Australian homes is on the increase."

To help ease the Christmas burden MyNetFone has priced the new Laser USB VoIP phone at just $39.95 and is adding in a free in a $10 call credit equivalent to about six and a half hours talk time.

The USB handset requires the user to download the MyNetFone softphone and install on their PC, but once signed up and registered for the service, calls can be made form the (tethered) phone rather than a cumbersome headset.

The handset has an LCD screen, 10 ring types with adjustable volume, multi-way conferencing, call forward, hold & resume and call mute as well as auto answer, do not disturb, caller-ID and a screen which allows you to easily see missed calls and dialled calls.
