Malaysian-based Voice and Video over IP provider Global Touch Solutions has added a network hub in Melbourne and is now looking for distribution and reseller partners in Australia to ramp its SIP-based VoIP service.

Global Touch International Business Director Pietro Casoar says the company is interested in talking to serious and dynamic ISPs or distribution partners in Australian to help it build marketshare for its Video and voice telephony services.

The opportunity is there as Casoar claims theirs is the only VoIP Video Telephony offering currently available in Australia and is offering a 50 percent margin on the ongoing subscriber access fee. There’s also a margin in the associated hardware.

The video service requires specialised phones which carry an RRP of $888 for the base model. Resellers also get a 10+ percent cut of the call costs to regular PSTN numbers on the voice service. Actual call rates are very low, but are billed in one minute increments. All calls are timed and are around three cents or less to regular landlines including National Calls. All VoIP to PSTN or mobiles require pre-paid credits which do not expire.

Of course video calls to phones on the Global Touch network don’t use the PSTN infrastructure and are free (excluding broadband costs). The company only has servers in Australia, Malaysia and Vietnam. Global Touch plans to role out its next servers in Italy, India, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Ukraine & Russia over the remainder of 2005.

Video calls require a broadband connection of at least 64kbps upload speed, though a minimum speed of 192kbps is recommended. The maximum frame rate on the video is 30 frames per second and max resolution is 352x288.

Casoar said the partners selected will need a strong background in sales and marketing and be able to purchase a minimum order quantity of stock per quarter.

All billing, activation and de-activation of phone numbers is done online and can be integrated into your own website. Global Touch is expecting to deliver the V2oIP network as a whitebrand in Australia, so partners wishing to build a long term commitment can do so under their own brand.

Each subscriber is assigned a phone number conforming to the current international country code identification standard. The video phone work with all types of high speed connections such as ADSL, Wireless Internet (iBurst), VSAT, Fiber Optic etc… and support PPPoE, fixed IP or DHCP.

The phones are ACA approved (A-Tick) and are the first Video Phones in Australia to receive this approval which complies with the Australian Standards. The phones come in retail packaging and are pre-configured with the end users own and unique telephone number together with interactive setup CD-ROM and documentation.

The phones have AV in/out and RS232C so can be integrated with PCs, TVs, projectors, external cameras and so on.

Global Touch says the SIP platform they have built for the network enables a wide range of services and the company is currently in negotiations with TV networks to deliver news and other channels via the phones.
