Residential VoIP provider, Fonebox is offering to transfer Australian
landline numbers to their IP Telephony service for A$99, or for free on a 12
month plan.
The Toowoomba-based service provider is also offering local Australian
phone numbers from around the country. Local numbers are charged on a monthly
basis at A$4.90.
Fonebox, which also offers small business plans, is a TIO member
that claims to have been in the VoIP business since 2005. Its backhaul network consists
of both TDM with presence in all Australian call zones and a nationwide MPLS
network.
The company also supplies Linksys
and Vegastream hardware for larger enterprises
and gaurantees 99.999% uptime.
While the company says that once your number has been ported
to Fonebox, you will not need your traditional PSTN service, it points out that
"careful consideration should be taken" as porting your existing number will
result in the disconnection of your service "rendering any associated services
(such as ADSL) unusable".
