Asterisk developer, Mark Spencer, founder and formerly President of Digium has stepped aside from the day to day running of the company allowing Danny J. Windham, former President, COO and Director of ADTRAN the role of CEO. The move marks a more aggressive stance by the company who will likely use Windham's expertise in the enteprrise telco space to advance the VoIP solutions house.

Spencer, the man behind Asterisk and Digium, the company that manages the open source development project will take on the newly created position of Chairman and CTO. Spencer said his new role will allow him to "focus more time on the customers and the technologies that will accelerate Digium and Asterisk". In this role Spencer will continue to drive the strategic vision and technology direction for the company as well as focusing upon the development and growth of the Asterisk Community, said the company in a statement.

Asterisk has been bulking up its staffing roster also adding Steve Harvey, a former Channel Sales VP also from ADTRAN to the position of VP of Worldwide Sales.
As VP of Worldwide Sales, Steve Harvey will drive Digium's expanding channel strategy and business development activities. Harvey spent 11 years at ADTRAN where he was responsible for leading the company's Enterprise Division from a direct sales environment into a channel driven model - doubling the revenues in the process.

Taking over the day to day operations, new CEO, Windham said: "Digium is at an exciting stage in its development. Asterisk's momentum is truly at its tipping point - it is a great honor to join the company at a time when there is such a tremendous opportunity in the industry."

The company has been busily building a product portfolio around the open source IP telephony system including the development of AsteriskNow a "software appliance" install which bundles a Linux operating system and the Asterisk voice management software into a single install.

Digium has also been bolstering its partnership profile introducing a buy online facility in AstreriskNow that allows users to simply pace orders to buy Polycom phones from within the Asterisk GUI.
