Pacific Internet (Australia) has given one of its product managers the brief to tacklye the challenge of getting SMBs to use IP Communications.

With the position of national marketing manager, Grant Lamont will play a key role in achieving MD Dennis Muscat's goals for the local PacNet division.

"Our five year strategy, unveiled last year, focuses on providing enhanced IP communications solutions
to the small and medium business (SMB) sector, particularly those in the franchise, retail and health
industries, to meet aggressive revenue and market share targets," said Muscat.

"Grant's deep understanding of the SMB market and ICT sector will ensure PacNet is well placed to
continue delivering tailored communications solutions for SMBs that drive customer retention and
market leadership," he said.

Lamont has actually been acting in the role for the past six months or so and has already been working to realign the marketing team to "better meet PacNet's strategic objectives".
This includes a keen focus on customer retention, among other things.

"I'm revved up about what the marketing team can achieve," said Lamont. "The next 12 months is crucial to cementing PacNet's brand as one of Australia's leading communications solutions providers for SMBs.

"We've had great success providing SMBs with customised solutions that help ease their IT headaches and provide services beyond basic internet provision.

"I'm planning to build upon these successes by extending our fixed voice rewards program to all of our
customers, working more closely with our channel partners and actively targeting key vertical markets.

"I'm also planning to drive our brand presence and launch several new products, including business
ADSL2+ offering later this year," Lamont said.

With the company for more than two years already, Lamont is credited with the development of products which have helped position PacNet as a leading provider of internet communications and services, including launching the award-winning SecureSite, Australia's first managed security product for SMBs, PacNet Vocal, business-grade voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) offerings and iBurst wireless DSL.

Prior to joining PacNet, he held positions in Telstra and NEC.

Lamont takes over from Julie Cleeland Nicholls who was bumped up to a Vice President role taking on Group Marketing for Pacific Internet. Cleeland Nicholls is now based in Singapore.
