In its half yearly earning report, Commander Communications has focused on how far the company has moved beyond its traditional business as a phone systems provider focusing instead on how well the company's acquisition of IT services company Volante has benefited the group.

The Commander Communications statement of six monthly performance benefited from Volante hardware sales as well. Prior to an unfriendly take over of the company Volante had merged its services operations with hardware company Ipex a leading Australian PC assembler.

The bullish report from Commander's senior management belied the half yearly loss which amounted to a significant A$5.6 million which was more than a 100 per cent reversal of the previous six month's profit of nearly A$7 million.

The company re-affirmed its full year guidance which should see revenues of around A$1.1 to A$1.2 billion for the fiscal year 2006/7.

This should yield it an EBITDA of somewhere around A$95 to A$101 million.

The company has been heavily focused on integration of the new acquisition costing it in redundancy expenses and other restructuring costs.

Commander Managing Director, Adrian Coote told how a pilot Franchise scheme has seen a number of staffers set up their own Commander outlets a channel strategy the company seems intent on accelerating in the second half.

In a statement announcing the result, the company said it"has achieved itsFY2007 half year guidance with significant successes in ICT Hardware(Data), Services and Business Segments.

"The owner operated Commander Centre franchises have already demonstrated business line efficiencies, selling voice equipment and network services as well as ICT hardware and services to the SMB market," the statement read.

"The expansion of the managed service team and the combined Commander and Volante offering has manifested in a number of new customers including a three-year, multi-million dollar IT managed services deal with Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd," claimed the company.
