Only last week we were reporting about the latest Dual Skype/PSTN phone from RTX. Now the company has another announcement to make. This time its a less spectacular dual USB/pSTN Skype phone that does require a PC to make calls.
The new DUALphone 3058 is a cordless Internet phone and ordinary telephone in one. Unlike the 3088 the company upgraded last week with multiple handset capabilities this device plugs into your personal computer, rather than directly into your broadband router.

Both, of course, plug into you regular fixed line phone socket to make PSTN calls, but unlike the 3088, the DUALphone require the PC to place a Skype call.

It is still a cordless phone and does not plug direcrtly into your PC, so you can make calls from anywhere in the house/office, but your PC must be turned on.

Other than that the phne has all the features you have come to expect from a Skype phone, the handset‘s colour display shows whether other Skype users on your contact list are available. If they are, users simply have to press the Skype button to talk to them for free.

If your buddies are offline, you can simply use the ordinary landline via the regualr phone service as normal. Alternatively, you can make cheap SkypeOut calls to landlines and mobiles anywhere in the world. Skype users can also purchase an optional SkypeIn number that allows them to receive calls from regular telephones via Skype.

"We are excited that we are still the only telephone manufacturer and design house who are capable of making Skype handsets with wideband audio, giving users superior sound quality," said RTX CEO Tage Rasmussen. "With the speakerphone, colour display and the support of Microsoft Vista we believe that the DUALphone 3058 will also be very interesting for business use."

"Introduced in 2004, RTX‘s first DUALphone for Skype became one of the most popular cordless Skype handsets ever," said Manrique Brenes, director of Hardware Business Development at Skype. "We are happy to see the second generation of this USB phone with wideband audio."
