New research from In-Stat indicates
that while US businesses are increasingly adopting VoIP solutions, they
are hesitant to switch off their regular phones.
In-Stat says 20% of US businesses are now using a VoIP solutions,
but 44% of them are keeping their TDM voice lines - at least for the
moment.
"VoIP is particularly attractive to businesses with dispersed
workforces, where long distance savings can be easily achieved," says David Lemelin,
In-Stat analyst. "However, VoIP is not typically embraced as the sole
source of voice communications for the vast majority of businesses that
have adopted VoIP to date."
The researcher says that business adoption of VoIP will continue
until it reaches two-thirds of US businesses some time in 2011, but
that the mix of products and services used will change over the
intervening time.
At present, says In_stat, business are using
multiple VoIP solutions. Of the 20 per cent of US businesses that have
adopted a VoIP solution, more than a third (36%) are using more than
one solution. Broadband IP telephony solutions resonating most strongly
with smaller businesses and IP PBX with larger ones.
Over the
coming years, however, In-Stat is expecting Hosted IP revenues to
exceed Broadband IP Telephony. By 2010 the business market will be
worth more even though it predicts there will me more Broadband IP
Telephony 'lines'.
