Reports are emerging today of an enterprise-class version of Skype targeting
businesses with more than 1000 employees. Though no official statement has
been made, the company is said to have let the news drift out by seeding a
number of VoIP blogs.
Don't you hate being left out? VoIP News didn't get the news, but
ComputerWorld US did
after asking for it.
The email sent to the blogs details that the enterprise version of
Skype has all the regular features of Skype" but also includes among
other features, enterprise network compatibility and company-owned name
creation.
Looking for participants in an "eraly Adopter Program" the email says it is
interested in soliciting interest from businesses with more than 1,000
employees.
"We look forward to hearing from business users at the early stages so we can
make sure that we create a really great product that people love using," the
statement says.
An Enterprise edition of Skype will be a step beyond the business edition and
could help to turn around the company's questionable standing among network
administrators, many of whom spend their time trying to eradicate it from
their networks.
Changes made to the Skype for Business client software focused on easing
security and management concerns in business networks by providing features
that give IT managers more control over the product.
