Skype For Windows Reaches 3.2 Print E-mail

Skype has let Skype for Windows 3.2 out to play and play it will. The main improvements for the latest version are an incremental evolution of the noise quality, the ability to send money to a contact using PayPal and to import your contacts list from your email account.

At least one of the major changes is a funky one. I have a cow pattern Skype now thanks to more options for users to personalise Skype. You can also use the client to take a photo of yourself with your webcam using a new video snapshot feature and then add that pic to your profile. I might skip that particular personalisation given how I look today.

Another major addition you will find in 3.2 is the ability to import address books from other applications such as Hotmail, GMail and Yahoo! This rather predatory tactic could work as a defensive move against the free email providers increasingly eating into Skype's market potential if not its market share.

The three search giants are in a battle to the death trying to tie in users by offering all manner of free services, including notably email, Instant Messaging and increasingly popular and Global voice services. The eBay owned Skype stands outside this battle somewhat as it does not provide email and isn't really in the traditional Internet search game (although it does now haveSkypeFind a yellowpages style search service for businesses).

The latest version also apparently improves the sound quality with enhanced echo cancellation and background noise reduction technologies

Also included in the new release is the Send Money feature which allows Skype users to send money to any of their Skype contacts viaPayPal.  This is an excellent example of how PayPal and Skype connect people through payments and communications.

Carter Adamson, director, desktop products for Skype said, "Skype has always been committed to giving people the best Internet calling experience possible and we feel we've hit the mark with the latest version.  Now you can really individualise your profile and make it even more unique with video snapshot, put all the contact details for your online relationships in one place and enjoy exceptional sound quality so much so that you feel like you're actually in the same room as the person you're calling."
