Commander Communicatiosn has implemented a Unified Commmunications soolution for Financial Services companyAustock using Microsft and Nortel technology.
The solution was made possible by the cooperative agreement struck between Nortel and Microsoft last year. Austock Group decided to complement an existing Voice over IP telephony network with a unified communications infrastructure using Microsoft's Live Communications Server (LCS) integrated with Nortel's Communication Server 1000 PBX hardware.

Office Communicator will run at the client end, allowing staff to more effectively action client requests and instantly see which of their colleagues are available online across Austock's Melbourne and Sydney offices.

"We run a time-critical business, especially in our stockbroking operation, so when a customer calls us to action a stock purchase or sell-off, every second missed can have a significant impact on the deal," says Ryan Bessemer, chief information officer, Austock.

"The combination of our existing Nortel infrastructure with Microsoft's unified communications software is the perfect solution for what we want to do. The end result will be a massive efficiency boost and a rise in the service levels we can offer our clients," Austock's Bessemer said.

"The key driver for companies like Austock that are migrating to unified communications is simplified integration, and that's the focus of our Innovative Communications Alliance with Microsoft," says Mark Fioretto, general manager, Enterprise Solutions, Australia and New Zealand, Nortel.

"The combination of our Communication Server platform with LCS and Office Communicator requires no third-party software, middleware or gateways, reducing the setup and ongoing maintenance cost of our solution," said Fioretto.

"Austock joins a growing list of Unified Communications customers that want to better connect their people by integrating their existing phone system and Microsoft Office System investments," says Oscar Trimboli, director, Unified Communications, Microsoft Australia.

"We expect 100 million Office System customers globally will be able to 'click-to-call' within three years. This represents a tremendous services opportunity for Microsoft partners such as Commander to unify communications across their customers' existing telephony and Microsoft Office systems."

"The focus on selling solutions from the Nortel and Microsoft Innovative Communications Alliance represents a strategic undertaking for Commander as a Platinum nPower channel partner of Nortel and a leading unified communications provider," says Steve Evans, group general manager, Enterprise, Commander. "The longstanding relationship that Commander and Austock share enabled Commander to recognise that this solution would exactly meet Austock's needs.  The Austock implementation exemplifies what we can do for our customers with the solutions made possible by the Alliance."
