CounterPath Solutions a leading provider of VoIP (Voice over IP) and Video over IP SIP softphones, today announced the release of its latest softphone client application, Bria 2.0.

Bria 2.0 introduces a number of new usability and customization features to the CounterPath Multimedia Communicator product suite and enables service providers and equipment manufacturers to present a highly flexible, user-friendly VoIP solution for consumer markets.

"Built on the same reliable SIP-based platform as our eyeBeam softphone, Bria 2.0 further enhances the end user experience by enabling communication over voice, video and IM intuitively based on personal preference," said Donovan Jones, President and COO of CounterPath.

"The user interface we've created for Bria 2.0 offers not only a fresh look and feel for the client, but offers a number of different voice/video calling and IM management options including drag-and-drop for contacts, auto-complete dialing and an extendable call management module, making it more convenient and efficient for both novice and power users."

Bria 2.0 combines voice and video calling, IM (Instant Messaging) and presence management in a visually appealing and versatile desktop communications application.

The distinguishing features of Bria 2.0 include:
  • Contact-centric vs. dialpad-centric: Bria's dynamic GUI (Graphical User Interface) focuses around the address book rather than the more traditional dial pad, enabling users to manage their communications more conveniently and according to their personal preferences.
  • Deskbar capability: Bria can be minimized to a deskbar, enabling the user to enjoy a manageable desktop space while still being able to make and receive calls.

For service providers:
  • Increased branding flexibility: Bria's new skinning engine gives customers increased options to create customized applications to support their brand and meet the needs of their clients.
  • Wider advertising reach: Bria's multiple panel layout incorporates customer specified areas for branded or revenue generating advertisements such as banner ads, click-to-call and interactive video messaging, as well as custom integration with network infrastructure.

Bria 2.0 is available for Windows XP and Windows 2000; versions for Windows Vista and Mac OS 10.4 and higher are scheduled for release at a future date.
