Polycom has appointed network distribution specialist, LAN Systems, to help it penetrate the Australian IT reseller base with its conferencing and collaboration solutions. LAN Systems will join Unitel as part of Polycom's dual distribution strategy in the Australian market.

The company is looking to expand its reach in the general IT market as part of its Unified Communications push, but the decision will also benefit existing Polycom VARs (Value Added Resellers) as they get better access to product due to the improvements in logistics and warehousing/supply LAN Systems can bring to the market.

Resellers will also be able to access online ordering systems, credit management and account management thanks to the new arrangements, says Polycom.

In a statement Michael Chetner, Polycom's Country Manager for Australia & New Zealand said: "Unified Communications is a key driver behind the proliferation of video conferencing at the desktop. Therefore LAN Systems' expertise in converged IP networks will allow Polycom to fully leverage their expertise and that of their resellers, in the IT networks environment.

"We see the strength of LAN Systems world-class distribution system, combined with Polycom's leadership position as a potent mix for Australian resellers and the Australian market as a whole".

"We are seeing increased demand for integrated voice and video conferencing solutions at the core of the network rather than as a standalone feature. Additionally, there has been an increase in the uptake of VoIP networks in the market which, we believe, will accelerate this growth. Companies are now seeing the benefits of cost savings and productivity gains, and from this, are able to recognise the strength of the business case for collaborative communications solutions," he said.
