European mobile VoIP subscribers can actually start seriously considering geting some VoIP usage out of their dual WiFi phones with the announcement by VoIP service provider, Vyke is available in more than 10,000 European hotspots thanks to a deal with hotspot provider, The Cloud.

Under the agreement, all Vyke Mobile IP users will be able to use The Cloud's 9,000 WiFi enabled wireless internet hotspots to make phone calls. The Cloud hotspots are found in a variety of public venues and 16 high density metropolitan areas such as the City of London, Canary Wharf, Amsterdam and Manchester.

Jan Christian Berger, Executive Vice President of Sales for Vyke Communications plc, said "Combined with Vyke's mobile VoIP service, The Cloud's wireless network represents a shift in the mobile telecoms paradigm.

"Access to city wide WiFi zones means that Vyke users living or working in these areas will be able to access low cost mobile VoIP communication services at virtually any point during their day-to-day lives. The power behind our relationship with The Cloud will be evident as users in these areas realize that they always have a low cost alternative available."

Roald Sandén, Managing Director for The Cloud Nordics said: "Mobile VoIP is driving development within the telecoms industry to the next level. We are pleased that The Cloud's network provides a key part of the mobile VoIP value chain and that we are in a position to provide support for the continued expansion of Vyke's mobile VoIP service offering."

Headquartered in the UK, Vyke Communications is yet to arrive in Australia, but it has subsidiaries and offices in Norway, USA, Iceland and Malaysia. The comany's Vyke Mobile IP VoIP service offers free calling from mobile phones to fixed lines in Western Europe and North America and, compared to typical mobile operator pricing structures, up to a 95% discount for other calling destinations.

IT also offers some call back VoIP services such as Vyke Mobile. The company announced recently that it offers free Mobile Messaging; allowing users to send free text messages worldwide. Vyke Pro, a downloadable program for Java handsetswill send free text messages to other Vyke Pro users and send normal text messages to non Vyke Pro users for as little as 1p per message.

Jan Christian Berger, EVP of Global Sales for Vyke AS said, "Everyone thinks that SMS is a cheap way to communicate at a typical cost of 12p per message.

Character by character, SMS is one of the most expensive ways in the world to move information, points out Berger. NASA pays less to get data back from the Hubble Space Telescope then most English users pay to send a text message he quips.
