The fourth person this year to head up Freshtel Holdings will be Novell Asia Pacific Chairman Ms Rhonda O'Donnell.

O'Donnell has already been consulting to Freshtel for the past two months meaning she began getting involved immediately after the sudden departure of John Butkiewicz who resigned in April after less than three months on the job.

He had replaced Founder and former CEO Michael Carew in mid-January who had stepped aside to focus doing big deals for the wholesale VoIP carrier.

Corporate Affairs Director Peter Warner stepped into the breach after the disappearance of Butkiewicz, so that Carew could continue in his new role of Global Business Director and now O'Donnell goes full time at Freshtel rounding out the four for the year and hopefully putting the company on an even keel as it continues to stretch itself into ambitious strategic growth.

Freshtel Chairman, Ken Loughnan, said: "The Freshtel board is absolutely delighted to welcome Rhonda to the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Freshtel Group. Over the past two months Rhonda demonstrated that she has the skills, acumen and vision to take this company forward.

"Rhonda has a strong track record in growing and transforming companies, global experience and deep government and industry connections that will bode well for Freshtel as we continue to grow."

O'Donnell joined Novell in 2001 as President and CEO of Novell Asia Pacific with responsibility for the management of Novell's entire regional operation spanning 13 markets and employing over 800 staff. She was a member of the company's Worldwide Management Committee.

"Freshtel's technology and solutions have the potential to transform the telecommunications industry as we know it. I am very excited by this opportunity and look forward to using my skills to help this promising Australian company heighten the impact it is having globally," she said.

O'Donnell can lay claim to being in a strategic management position at Novel during its tumultuous transition from a proprietary to an open source company and is the architect behind Novell's global strategy to capitalise on Linux and open source technology in emerging markets and successfully led Novell's expansion into China and India.
