It was hardly surprising that a deluge of VoIP service providers started
sniffing about the remains of failed VoIP Provider SunRocket's subscriber
base, but the announcement by Packet8's 8x8 business stands out.
The company has put out a press release in which it claims to be the official
recommended alternative for SunRocket customers.
The announcement says in part that "it has signed an agreement with an organization
managing the wind down of SunRocket, Inc. to present SunRocket subscribers
with a specially-priced offer to transition their Internet phone service to
Packet8."
The release goes on to promise to waive the regular start up costs and offers
one month free service, which the company says, is a saving of about US$100 .
Many other broadband telephony suppliers are offering similar deals, the difference with Packet8 is that "SunRocket will communicate with its 200,000 + subscribers
via an email and voicemail campaign recommending they transition their service
to Packet8 immediately."
"While we are very sorry to hear about SunRocket's financial issues," says the
release... "8x8 is pleased to be able to quickly transition SunRocket
subscribers that opt into the Packet8 service," said 8x8 Chairman and CEO
Bryan Martin.
UPDATE: Rich Tehrani at TMC chased Packet8 up about this and posted their email interview here.
