The ShoreTel says its latest conference phone, the IP 8000 offers double the room coverage of competing IP-based conference phone while reducing the unwanted noise and interference in your average boardroom. The SIP-capable phone is priced at US$1,299 and promises three-way local conferencing.

The company says the IP 8000's advanced technologies increase quality to "unprecedented levels" with 16 always-on, beam-forming microphones arranged in a patent-pending Circular Microphone Array format.

Beam-forming increases the receiver sensitivity in the direction of wanted signals and decreases the sensitivity in the direction of interference and noise. This way it picks up the human voices and ignores unwanted noise like projectors or notebook computers often found sitting on conference room tables along with the phone.

The ShoreTel IP 8000 also has enhanced Radio Frequency Immunity, which eliminates distracting interference from cell phones, PDAs, and other electronic devices in the conference room. And its titanium speaker driver and "tuned ported enclosure" reduce unwanted distortion by what ShoreTel says is up to 10 times more effectively than other conference phones.

The device is shoretel_ip_8000.png software-based and remotely programmable, though it has a keypad and display which makes it easy to add call participants and so on.

"Its three-way local conferencing capabilities permit users to host ad-hoc conferences without consuming PBX or audio bridge resources. Finally, the SIP-compliant IP 8000 integrates seamlessly with ShoreTel's comprehensive suite of IP telephony solutions, giving customers easy access to the productivity-enhancing features that distinguish its overall offering," says the announcement.
