Customers of the ill-fated US-based broadband phone supplier,
SunRocket, have a little bit of a reprieve this week as the accountants
winding down the company have promised another week's service.
According to this
story published over the weekend, Sherwood Partners LLC (the company
signed by SunRocket executives to manage the liquidation of the
company's assets) have promised SunRocket's former customers they can
keep the minutes flowing until midnight U.S. Eastern
time on 5 August.
According to the report the bankruptcy managers have signed a definitive agreement to sell some SunRocket network assets to
VoIP service provider TeleBlend and will use the
proceeds to keep SunRocket service going until then.
Already out of pocket for US$199 upfront charges paid to SunRocket, the
200,000 or so stranded users have until then to get their numbers
ported to a new supplier.
TeleBlend, a joint venture of Unified Communications Corp.
and competitive local exchange carrier USA Telephone, is one of two
companies that have offered the managing accountants a bounty for every
former SunRocket customer they can sign up.
The other 8x8 Inc's Packet 8 service and TeleBlend are among the many
VoIP service providers offering attractive discounts and sign-up
bonuses to the out-of-pocket subscribers.
