Engin has announced a leadership change with plans for founding CEO Ilka Tales to step aside for a new CEO to come in and head up the company's new TiVo, broadband, VoIP triple play business.

Max Alexander, former MD of Carphone Warehouse’s Communication Division, will relocate from the United Kingdom to assume the position in November 2007.

Alexander is credited with building and operated both the “Fresh” MVNO Brand (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) and TalkTalk the "fastest growing telecoms business in the UK".

According to Engin, Alexander grew TalkTalk from concept to 2.5m subscribers and £500m of annual revenue in less than three years through an aggressive broadband telephony, naked DSL roll-out.

Ilkka Tales, the founding CEO of Engin and the brainchild behind creating the leading broadband telephony offering in Australia has transitioned his role consistent with the “triple play” strategic platform and to execute on that vision.

Tales will remain in the CEO role until Alexander is able to transition from his current role into Engin at which point Tales will continue to focus on the many strategic possibilities for Engin.

Will Jephcott, Chairman of Engin, said, “We are very pleased that Max has agreed to join Engin. He is the ideal person to take Engin forward in its next stage of development. With a special focus on marketing, he brings to Engin significant experience in building the fastest growing telecoms business in the UK coupled with media and internet experience at Sky. Max’s experience at growing companies and his demonstrated operational capabilities provide the skills we need to take the company forward during what is expected to be a high growth phase”.

Jephcott paid tribute to Tales’s enormous contribution to Engin to date saying: “We thank him for envisioning the Engin concept and in the complex task of establishing the business and look forward to his ongoing support for the future.”

ASX-listed Engin is probably correct in its claim as Australia’s leading Broadband phone company, though it has only 75,000 subscribers as of the beginning of June 2007.

The ocmany most recently made headlines with an announcement that it would bring the TiVo brand to Australia for the first time would enter the data business offering naked DSL using the Optus ADS2+ network.

The big change in direction for the VoIP telephony provider came when it enticed the Yahoo! and Seven Network joint venture Yahoo7 to invest in the company taking a third of the copmany.

THis acquisition has now changed color a little with Engin announcing to the ASX today that Seven has granted Yahoo options to acquire its shareholding in Engin.
