The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 has the sortt of specs that just might make it a new benchmark in consumer video conferencing: Carl Zeiss optics; premium autofocus system; 720p high-definition; smart lighting and sound technology. It all adds up to a new device that Logitech seems willing to rave about.

To begin, the lens is designed in collaboration with one of the world's leading optics companies - the 160-year old Carl Zeiss, company. It makes the QuickCam Pro 9000 image quality with "image-perfect detail and clarity a reality", says Logitech.

"People will be amazed by the outstanding image quality of these webcams," said Marco Manera, Logitech's Managing Director, Australia and New Zealand. "Logitech's goal with our webcams has always been to better connect people from around the world. With Carl Zeiss, the company that essentially invented the science of camera optics, we are closer to making video communications nearly indistinguishable from having a conversation in the same room."

Logitech's exclusive collaboration with Carl Zeiss - the recognised leader in optics for many applications, including cameras, eyeglass lenses and space optics - ensures that theQuickCam Pro 9000 is the first webcam to meet Zeiss's world-renowned standards for lens design and manufacturing. The QuickCam Pro 9000 incorporates a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, a lens design renowned for delivering superior sharpness in a compact, lightweight design.

The autofocus system compensates for changes in image-edge sharpness by refocussing in less than three seconds, while also being capable of providing crisp extreme close-ups of as little as 10 cm from the camera lens.

The QuickCam Pro 9000 supports the 720p high-definition (HD) video format, recording to disc at a resolution of 960 by 720 pixels and is capable of recording video at up to 30 frames per second. With software interpolation the two-megapixel sensor in the device is even capable of capturing a n eight-megapixel photo.

Two technologies: RightLight 2 Technology and RightSound automatically adjust to maintain a good image and sound filtering out backlighting or background sound and other factors that might impact on the quality of the video transmission.

The Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 is available now in Australia for an RRP AUD$149.
