Melbourne-based Next IP Distribution has begun stocking the Aastra OpenCom range of telephone systems from the Ontario-based company.

Aastra offers a full range of open standard IP-based and traditional communications networking products, including terminals, systems, and applications. In particular, however, Next IP is interested in the OpenCom X320, which it notes is ideally suited to small to medium sized businesses,

The X320 integrates voicemail, call accounting, fax card, VPN router and firewall, into one solution plus offers a number of wireless and fixed handset options. Based on a modular system design, the OpenCom X320 can be tailored to suit the needs of any growing business.

Nick Touzeau, director of Next IP Distribution, said, "The OpenCom X320 is a truly convergent telephone system, combining technology strengths in VoIP, wireless, business applications such as voicemail and integrated call accounting and a range of fixed and IP handsets. The system is completely expandable and flexible, allowing it to be configured as either a "traditional" PABX or as a pure "IP-PABX."

The OpenComX320 incorporates a range of features including:
  • Voice over IP (VoIP) - the system has been developed specifically with VoIP in mind enabling SMB's to connect IP handsets, IP-enabled DECT base stations and PC based soft phones to their local or wide area networks.  Call costs are dramatically reduced because the OpenCom X320 supports carrier based SIP trunking while site linking can be achieved via an inbuilt VPN router with firewall supporting IPSEC and PPTP.
  • Wireless - large work areas receive blanket radio coverage through integrated DECT wireless extensions and DECT base stations.
  • Applications - business applications such as call accounting, voicemail and auto attendant have been integrated, eliminating the need to purchase external modules or third party applications. The system also has its own CTI (computer telephony integration) package for PC based management of handsets and voicemail as well as support for dial out from applications such as Microsoft Outlook.

The OpenCom X320 also supports a variety of integrated messaging options including the receipt and sending of faxes directly from a user's PC via an optional fax mail card.

"The Aastra OpenCom X320 telephone system offers protection of investment for small and medium businesses. It provides the freedom and versatility to enable future application development because of its simple configuration, remote management functionality and highly scalable processor power," said Touzeau.
