ASX-Listed My Net Fone Limited has launched a mobile VoIP service supporting Nokia mobile devices through either WiFi or 3G services.

Dubbed MyNetFone On-the-Go, the service is supported in the following Nokia devices: N80 IE, N95, E90, E65, E61i, E61, E60, E70 PR3.

Users require a plug-in software client installed on their phone which operates independently of the normal wireless mobile telephony service. The phone will then respond to two separate numbers – one MyNetFone and another mobile number to receive incoming calls.

Whether the use of 3G is cost-effective for mobile VoIP calls will depend of course on where the user is calling and the specifics of their mobile plan, but wiht support for WiFi, calls made from the home or office wireless network could be far cheaper than regular mobile rates.

Particualrly if the user is overseas, it enables MyNetFone On-the-Go customers can call their families and friends back in Australia without paying roaming charges and making even bigger savings on their phone bills, points out the company.

“We are very excited in launching this new generation of mobile service. Until now, VoIP service is tied to landline phones. With the MyNetFone On-the-Go service, customers would be able to have the best of both worlds – great savings and mobility using theirmobile device. The continuing rollouts of WiFi and 3G coverage in Australia will enable more & more MyNetFone customers to use the On-the-Go service,” said Mr Andy Fung,
Managing Director of My Net Fone.

“With the On-the-Go service, MyNetFone is expanding into the lucrative, growing mobile market. In addition to Nokia, we plan to work with other handset manufacturers to increase the range of mobile devices that support the On-the-Go service,” said Andy Fung. “This is just the beginning of a new generation of enhanced services that we’ll be releasing this year. These new generation services would enable MyNetFone to add more customers and increase the average spend per user (ARPU). Finally, MyNetFone’s innovations in new generation VoIP services will set a benchmark in delivering more
benefits and value to our customers,”
