NetComm has announced the "imminent" release of a new WiFi VoIP Handset - the 802.11g ready V24W phone supports multiple VoIP networks including Skype, MSN, Yahoo, SIP providers such as Engin, Mynetfone, Freshtel or GoTalk.

The phone is portable, so users can use it in an office that has wireless set up or in a hotspot at an airport, hotel or café to make VoIP calls and significantly reduce the costs of their mobile phone bills.

The phone also allows users to surf the Internet with a full web browser. The phone runs on Microsoft Windows CE, so the menu is familiar to anyone who knows windows.

"The V24W has multiple purposes because of its wireless portability," David Stewart, Managing Director of NetComm. "It could be used by university students or lecturers where there is a mesh network for free calls within a campus to other users on the network. It could also be used by traveling sales representatives who want a back up to reduce mobile phone bills, or international travelers who want to reduce their mobile roaming bills and who can get internet access overseas.

"VoIP offers price competitiveness - allowing national calls for a rate of 10 cent and international calls from 2 cents a minute. Additionally, using the V24W saves users mobile roaming and national charges, with VoIP calls cost significantly less than calls from mobiles," he said.

Key features of the V24W WiFi VoIP Handset include:
  • Supports multiple VoIP settings including Skype, SIP - VoIP provider, MSN and Yahoo
  • Full web browser for accessing the Internet and allows for usernames and passwords to be entered when used in a "hotspot zone"
  • Reduces mobile phone costs, using VoIP instead of the mobile network
  • Fast hotspot authentication and e-mail supported
  • 3-Way conferencing, call hold and resume, caller ID, call forward, hold and transfer
  • Phone book capable of 240+ records
  • Simple icon based setup and configuration
  • Sleek look and feel
  • Light and portable design
  • Runs on Microsoft Windows CE
  • Stylish piano black case
The V24W WiFi VoIP Handset will be available at the end of September through NetComm product stockists nationally and is priced at $699 incl. GST.
