UXC division, Integ Communications, has launched a ‘Telephony as a Service' solution (iTaaS), a hosted telephony solution priced at a fixed monthly rate.

Depending on the deal customers can locate the media gateways in their own premises for resilience and can choose between either complete or partial management. Either way, the hardware including the IP phones remain the property of the solution provider.

Integ developed the solution in consultation with the consortium known as Group Communications Tender (GCT). Established by Telecommunications consultant Alan Harrison, the GCT brings together a number partners to supply telecommunications goods and services at competitive rates to organisations and government departments across Australia.

The solution is based on the complete communications software suite from Alcatel-Lucent with monthly fees paid based on the number of users, features and applications used. Generally the per-user fee incorporates all hardware and software elements, as well as management and administration of the system for the period of the contract. Contracts are typically in excess of five years which allows businesses to more effectively forward plan and budget for their telephony requirements, says the provider.

Ian Poole, CEO of the Integ Group notes that as Australian businesses are contemplating the upgrade of existing PBX systems they are considering IP telephony options, but the "significant initial investment coupled with lack of internal skills required to manage these solutions have proven barriers to deployment".

"Many organisations approach us because they are outgrowing their communications system, but they also have budget constraints.

"Integ's hosted approach offers customers a choice when they don't want their capital expenditure budgets spent on a fully featured IP telephony solution, but want and need to enjoy its benefits. The telephony hardware and software costs are removed from the balance sheet while eliminating the need for ongoing investment in people and training, making IP Telephony deployment a reality for these businesses," he said.

The basic service delivers IP Telephony and offers options such as Unified communications, including collaboration, messaging and presence, even Contact centre solutions. Customers can get a choice of wired and wireless handsets or softphones.
