Version 2.0 of Polycom's RMX 2000 high definition video conferencing system is now available in Australia. Available through certified Polycom channel partners and priced from US$66,250 in the Asia Pacific, the RMX 2000 is the most advanced and flexible multipoint video conferencing solution in the market today claims the company.

The real-time multi-point, high-definition video, voice and unified (voice and video) collaboration system is designed to work with unified communication environments from Avaya and IBM. Built on an Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA), the RMX 2000 is a real-time media conferencing platform optimised for use on IP networks and designed from the ground up to be the collaboration heart of a unified communications network, says the Polycom.

"We believe the RMX 2000 is the most advanced and flexible multipoint video conferencing solution in the market today," said Michael Chetner, ANZ Country Manager, Polycom. "Although the RMX is a platform designed for the next generation of HD video conferencing and telepresence applications, we have not forgotten that the majority of customers today are using lower resolution endpoints or mixed-endpoint environments. The RMX 2000 can scale capacity to efficiently and cost-effectively provide the optimal experience for every type of endpoint in a call, whatever the resolution, making it ideal for the majority of real-world video conferencing environments today, as well as next-generation HD video environments."

The new software introduces true HD conferencing with full transcoding on the existing RMX 2000 media processing module hardware and importantly allows you to combine endpoints with different resolutions on the same conference. This means you can combine full-room conference systems with desktop end-points in the same call.

In conjunction with a new E1/T1 interface card, it also expands the system's voice conferencing capabilities with up to 400 PSTN or VoIP audio resources. The system features dynamic configuration of audio and video resources, allowing it to scale from 20 to 400 audio resources depending on the configuration of voice and video devices, as well as the video resolution selected.

Capacity of the RMX 2000 scales based on the resolution demands of each endpoint in a call (HD and non-HD endpoints), making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for customers with mixed deployments.

Capabilities enabled in RMX 2000 Version 2.0 support the impending mainstreaming of mission critical video across and among enterprises. As a result, RMX 2000 Version 2.0 integrates with Polycom's strategic alliance partners in the service provider IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) infrastructure, IP PBX, and presence-based collaboration markets. Today, RMX 2000 Version 2.0 enables integration with the Avaya Video Telephony Solution and IBM Lotus Sametime and Lotus Notes applications making Polycom voice and video conferencing capabilities instantly accessible within these unified communications environments.

RMX Version 2.0 software also adds support for 11 additional languages (supporting 12 total), enabling the RMX 2000 to be localised as a solution for global and international organisations. Languages supported include English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Russian, German, Korean, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Norwegian.
