Oki, better known for its printing solution has announced an IP
communication
system for the Australian SMB market. The move is perhaps not so
remarkable on a global perspective considering Oki claims a 130 year
heritage in telecommunications.
IPstage SX is targeted at small sized offices with up to 30 extensions
and provides the type of telephony features you would expect from an IP
PBX - it can link applications and conduct video
conferencing for up to four people, functions that were previously only
offered
in systems for large-scale companies, says OKI.
"While it may seem a little unusual for Oki to launch
a communications product, the Australian market knows and trusts the Oki brand
implicitly and we believe that our extensive global experience in IP PBX will
allow us to secure considerable market share," said Graham
Harman, Oki General Manager.
The IPstage series itself provides a number of features like call restriction, which prevents calls being placed to a
pre-registered number, automatic route selection, Caller ID display on analogue
phones, DISA, built-in Voice Mail and Call Rejection.
The system, which
is "exceptionally price competitive", allows users to use the system with either
digital handsets that feature 4
lines x 16 character LCD backlit display and full duplex hands free, or with IP
handsets that connect directly to the computer as well as OKI's soft phone the atrociously named Com@WILL.
The Com@WILL softphone is able to manage a four party Video Conference
with high quality voice and video. It features Voice Recording
during a conversation (or when absent) and Application Sharing for
sharing the same
spreadsheet or presentation files etc., with other parties and many
others.
