With Engin now no longer planning a Naked DSL and VoIP bundle users
have been left with the option of a regular ISP service, though there
are a growing numberof those lookignto provide both Naked DSL and a
bundled VoIP service.
Perhaps most notably is iiNet, the country's
number three ISP behind BigPond and Optus. In fact it's an Optus
service you will buy if you sign up with gotalk, except at this point
in time you can't get naked DSL direct from the SingTel owned telco.
But the evolving phone card company isn't just stopping at ADSL2 and
VoIP, it has also introduced 'full' communications packages that also
add a mobile phone account to the bundle.
For example. For a total
package of $95 per month subscribers can get a Naked ADSL2+ service
with 3GB + 6GB (peak + non-peak) of downloads, all your local, mobile,
national and most of your international calls free with the remaining
overseas calls charged at a flat rate of 20c or 50c depending on
destination. Plus you get the mobile plan with a $100 worth of calls
included.
"gotalk's Naked DSL is Australia's first communications package to
offer the best of Hi Speed ADSL2+ internet; loads of free local,
national and mobile calls and a mobile CAP plan", said gotalk CEO,
Steve Picton.
"All gotalk Naked DSL plans offer competitive value for money and come
with the full speed of ADSL2+ and a free VoIP account," he said. "But
our main point of difference is that we are the only telco in Australia
offering a bundle offer with loads of free local, national and
Australian mobile calls through our Award Winning Aussie VoIP Pack as
well as a $100 mobile cap".
Admittedly there are limits on the free local and national calls. You
can make up to 300 local calls per month, up to 300 national calls per
monthand up to 100 calls per month (or 500 minutes) to Australian
mobile phones.
Other plans in the offing do not have the targets subscribers looking
to just get a data/VoIP service. These include a free VoIP service but
you must pay for the calls you use. These services start with a 9GB
(3GB + 6GB) service for A$49.95 up to a 60GB (20GB + 40GB) service for
79.95 a month. Calling rates are 9.9c per call to local and National
numbers, while calls to mobiles are charged as 19.9c per minute.
"The approach that we've taken is that we're not increasing the price
of your service to cover the ‘free' local/national/mobile calls
component. Customers can choose to either pay as they go with gotalk's
Great Escape plans; or upgrade to our Aussie Pack and get loads of free
local, national and mobile calls; or sign up to our ‘Escape with the
Lot' $95 Communications Package and get broadband, free VoIP calls and
a mobile CAP plan all included".
"With the release of several Naked DSL plans from different companies
in the last few weeks it is important that customers are made aware of
the differences between them and the choices now available", said
Picton emphasising the point that the gotalk plans only include
downloads, not uploads as well.
