3Com is targeting the Australian Small Business sector with a release of its enterprise class VCX system for SMBs. Priced from AUD$8,050 for 25 users, but scaling to 1500 users with the VCX 200 system, the new offering has the class of an enterprise-grade solution.

This is the same software that IBM chose to partner with 3Com on so it could integrate the VCX IP telephony suite on its System i server platform for contact center, unified messaging, conferencing and presence management solutions.

The SMB solutions are built on the same VCX Enterprise code that has been refined over the last six years and promises Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), single and multi-site deployment, primary and secondary servers for continuity and access to IP conferencing and presence for remote collaboration with any combination of voice, video and desktop sharing services.

VCX Connect also provides company, departmental and personal auto attendant features and supports mobility so users and administrators can access the Web-based telephony application from any location. In addition to standard IP phones, VCX Connect enables calls to be made from multimedia devices, including SIP-based video phones and software applications, such as the 3Com Convergence Center Client, which provides instant messaging, voice, video and desktop sharing.

"The 3Com VCX Connect platform disrupts the VoIP market by delivering an open communications infrastructure for integrating business applications," said Peter Chai, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, 3Com Corporation. "It's no longer about VoIP providing cost savings but enabling unified communications (UC) by integrating applications like unified messaging, collaboration and conferencing."

3Com's VCX Connect platform come in two versions, the VCX Connect 100, that support up to 100 SIP devices per server and the VCX Connect 200 that is designed for enterprises with up to 250 devices per server. Up to six servers can be networked together to create a single system image that increases the capacity of the VCX Connect 100 to 600 devices and the VCX Connect 200 to 1,500 devices. Both VCX Connect base packages come standard with 25 user licenses.

The VCX Connect 100 integrated server and gateway has an RRP of AUD$8,050 for a single or primary server. A secondary server has an RRP of AUD$6,325. The VCX Connect 200 has an RRP price of AUD$8,625 for a single or primary server. A secondary server for the VCX Connect 200 has an RRP of AUD$6,900. VoIP Gateways for the VCX Connect 200 are available separately.
