Telstra has selected Polycom as a preferred handset supplier for its IP telephony service targeting small, medium and large organisations.

The deal will see the phones co-branded with both Polycom and Telstra logos for the TIPT (Telstra IP Telephony) service. Telstra will resell and distribute Polycom SoundPoint IP handsets to customers as part of the TIPT package.

All of the SoundPoint IP handsets are uniquely designed to clarify the sound of the human voice - even in multi-party conference calls - and feature in-built screens with an intuitive user interface and clearly labelled buttons for heightened ease-of-use and productivity.  Additionally, the SoundPoint IP 550 and 650 handsets include Polycom HD Voice with patented Acoustic Clarity Technology 2 capabilities - incorporating the latest full duplex, echo cancellation, and noise reduction technologies - to deliver twice the clarity of ordinary phone calls.

"A key priority for Telstra is to offer technologies and services that are innovative, but also intuitive and easy for our customers to use," Philip Jones, Executive Director - Data IP & Enterprise Services, Telstra.  "Polycom's leadership in HD voice technology and expertise in feature integration made them the ideal preferred handset partner for the TIPT service."

Michael Chetner, Australia and New Zealand Country Manager, Polycom added, "These co-branded handsets are the result of two years of close contact and collaboration between Polycom and Telstra's technical, sales and product management teams.

"We're delighted to have the opportunity to partner with Telstra to extend the business benefits of HD-enabled IP telephony to customers across Australia."
