Remote Resort Resorts To VoIP |

Voyages, a tourism operator specialising in outback accommodation has turned to Ericom to deliver a VoIP linking resorts at Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock with the civilised world.
Ericom used a Mitel voice solution comprising the 3300 IP Communications Platform (ICP) at each resort. Data transmission is provided by a combination of Telstra Private IP services and radio or satellite services.
Installation and onsite support services for the remote locations is being handled by Telstra Business Systems.
Greg Hucker, General Manager IT&T for Voyages said: “Our Kings Canyon and Ayers Rock Resorts are in the middle of the desert, hours from the nearest city. Providing memorable experiences is critical for our business and we rely on our phone systems to help deliver the highest level of service. Mitel’s IP Telephony solution is rock solid for our resorts.”
Voyages Ayers Rock Resort is the largest tourist resort in Australia, with more than 2500 traditional telephone handsets already in place. The challenge of extending a large existing environment was solved by integrating a Mitel 3300 ICP solution with the existing legacy phone system.
Mitel IP Telephony handsets will be progressively deployed for new connections, and as part of ongoing refurbishment programs.
The Kings Canyon Resort is a three hour road trip from Alice Springs. Bringing IP Telephony to the most remote tourist resort in
Australia required meticulous planning and the ability to completely manage the system from head office. The Mitel 3300 ICP system was pre-configured prior to installation.
Hucker raved about the Mitel’s automatic reporting which he said makes it easy to remotely administer multiple sites.
The resort operator now plans to progressively roll-out Mitel solutions across its other resorts, said Hucker.
