A number of websites around the world have started using SkypeWeb, a new system from the Skype people which allows the site to show the online status or its users.

The new web presence feature introduced only recently by Skype has already been deployed in more than 50 websites across 20 counrties.

Skype, an eBay company, said the service allows people to see Skype users’ online status and call or chat with them from any website as well as Skype people from each site with a mouse click.

Salesforce.com is one of the launch partners. “With just a few simple steps we were able to incorporate SkypeWeb into our AppExchange platform,” said Adam Gross, vice president, developer marketing, salesforce.com. “In addition to free Skype voice calls, the SkypeWeb presence feature gives our subscribers the ability to know when their contacts and colleagues are available and online - all directly from within Salesforce."

Bebo, the largest social networking site in the U.K. and Ireland and one of the fastest growing in the U.S. with more than 22 million members, has integrated SkypeWeb to enable all Beboers to IM, voice and video chat.

A Danish classifieds portal; Swedish community website; Six Apart and TOM.com are among other users of the new presence tool.

Hutchinson Global Communications and Pacific Internet have also integrated SkypeWeb which requires users to opt-in.
